The EPR scheme for professional packaging: the date is set for 1 January 2027

The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for professional packaging has been postponed to January 1, 2027. This delay is intended to clarify the implementation details and provide greater visibility for businesses.

1 January is often associated with New Year’s resolutions. This year, it will also mark a new stage for businesses subject to the EPR scheme for professional packaging (EPRO).

The French Government has confirmed the postponement of the scheme’s start date. Initially scheduled for 1 July 2026, it will now begin on 1 January 2027.

Extra time to prepare the scheme more effectively

This additional time gives the European Commission the time it needs to clarify the eligibility criteria, and gives eco-organisations time to publish the 2027 eco-contribution fee schedule as soon as possible, giving you greater visibility.

Our number one tip: plan ahead! It’s the best way to give yourself every chance of success. By preparing now, you can already identify ways to reduce your eco-contribution and access the financial support available from 2027. Planning now allows you to:

Identify the professional packaging you place on the market and determine which packaging will fall within the scope of EPRO.

Gather information about packaging, materials, quantities placed on the market and the other data that will be requested in the declaration.

Identify the people to contact and allocate roles across procurement, CSR, logistics, finance and marketing.

Analyse your packaging and identify opportunities now to reduce it, reuse it or improve its recyclability.
